Clinics
GSP regularly conducts half-day clinics for secondary schools and universities throughout Peninsular Malaysia with a special focus on the northern states.
Clinics are divided into three parts: 1) Introduction (inclusive of video and overview of rules); 2) Skills (backhand, forehand, catching, pivoting, and basic strategy) and 3) Small-sided games with coaching. Everyone will have a chance to play! We can accommodate men and women of all ages and athletic ability.
GSP is committed to the growth of Ultimate and will strive to provide clinics at a price you can afford. Clinics are even sometimes provided free of charge when accompanied by the purchase of MyDiscs™.
Tournaments
Ultimate Frisbee tournaments are organized in many ways. Most tournaments are open tournaments in which teams submit “bids” in the hope that their team will be selected to participate in the event. Organizers select teams based on the number of teams needed for the tournament as well as the perceived level of skill a team has in relation to other teams. This is done to ensure a healthy and fun level of competition. Other tournaments are “invitationals” in which teams are simply selected by the event organizer to participate.
A creative approach to Ultimate completion is to organize a “hat tournament,” where players register as individuals and the event organizer places them on teams with attention given to the relative skill of the players (this is done to ensure successful creation of well-balanced teams). Hat tournaments help develop relationships within the Ultimate community, grow the sport in areas where Ultimate is new, and allow players to develop their skills by playing with others who might also have skills and strategies to pass on. The annual Penang Hat tournament is the most established hat tournament in the country and draws players from around the region.
GSP is willing to come alongside partners to provide advice and support to those wanting to organize a competition. We strongly encourage schools and clubs to only organize competitions if they have already had the opportunity to compete in several prior competitions. A good place to begin when organizing a competition is within a given school, that is, an internal tournament. The good news is that Ultimate can be cost-effective and does not require a big budget! In any case, it is important to get started with a positive experience. The “first taste” is lasting, whether good or bad! If rules are not clear or the event is poorly organized, the growth of the sport will likely be stymied.
Special Events
Many do not realize that Ultimate Frisbee is a fun, inexpensive, team building, healthy activity to include in any number of events such as family days, organizational activities, government programs, or community events. Old and young men and women enjoy throwing and catching a disc, whether simply for casual fun or in a competitive game of Ultimate.
GSP has organized events incorporating Ultimate Frisbee for TV stations, telecommunications companies, government ministries and departments, community organizations, NGO’s and many more. Everyone enjoys throwing a Frisbee or MyDisc™! In the space of just two hours, participants can go from not even knowing how to hold a disc to enjoy a small-sided game!
Additionally, custom discs with the logo of your choice can be purchased for as little as RM 13 each! (base price for a minimum order of 200 pcs). Depending on the size of the order and location of the event, an Ultimate Frisbee clinic is extremely affordable…and sometimes even free of charge!
