Valley Utimate is organising the Unity League, a Co-ed hat league. Just in case you didn't know, a hat league is when you register as an individual, instead of a team.

Teams are formed based on skills, gender, athletic ability and every attempt will be made to ensure teams are fair and competitive.

1.0 Objectives

  • 1.1 To promote interaction and unity among the Ultimate Frisbee players.

  • 1.2 To enable new and novice players to gain experience from playing together with experienced players.

  • 1.3 To improve skills of players through coaching by experienced players.

2.0 Place and Time

  • 2.1 Proposed place is Varsity Green at University Malaya.

  • 2.2 Captain’s meeting at 8.30am, Match starts at 9.00 a.m.

  • 2.3 It is similar to Saturday pick-up but with a twist.

  • 2.4 On a non-league week, pick-up will be held as usual.

3.0 Registration

  • 3.1 Each player shall pay a fee RM 30.

  • 3.2 The fees will cover leagues t-shirts (cum jersey as each team will receive different coloured t-shirts) and prizes.

  • 3.3 Each team shall be required to pay RM 100 as ‘Field Deposit’. This amount will be refunded to the team at the end of the league if the team does not cancel any matches.

  • 3.4 Each player shall register for the league by 21st March, via email to ultimatemalaysia [at] gmail [dot] com , or by filling a form (during pick-up).

  • 3.5 Each player shall pay the fee by 22nd March, via bank deposit(to be made available), or cash (during pick-up).

  • 3.6 Players whom do not register by the closing date and pay the fee, will not be allowed to play in the league under any conditions. This is to uphold the balance of a team and to promote a sense of responsibility among ultimate players.

4.0 Competition Format

  • 4.1 The league will be formed with a minimum of 60 players divided into 4 teams.

  • 4.2 The league will be held with a minimum of 3 rounds. Each round shall be referred to as Match Day.

  • 4.3 A team will play a minimum of 2 matches in each round.

  • 4.4 Teams will play against each other in a round-robin format.

  • 4.5 If a team cancels a match, the following penalty shall be imposed:
    • 4.5.1 The team whom cancels shall concede a walk-over and 5 points shall be scored against them (Goals Against).

    • 4.5.2 Opponent team shall be awarded 3 points for winning the match and 5 points shall be scored for them. (Goals Scored).

  • 4.6 If the same team cancels matches for a second Match Day, the team’s Field Deposit of RM100 shall not be refunded at the end of the league, in addition to the penalty imposed in item 4.5.

  • 4.7 Captains shall not be allowed to cancel a match if their team has a minimum of 12 players on the roster.

  • 4.8 Each team shall award their opponents with points for Spirit of the Game after each match.

  • 4.9 After the round-robin has been completed, in the event of a tie, or more than 2 teams share the same points, the following criteria shall be used to determine a winner:
    • 4.9.1 Point/Goal difference (GD)

    • 4.9.2 Points scored for Spirit of the Game (SP)

    • 4.9.3 Point/Goals Scored (GS)

5.0 Team Format

  • 5.1 Teams will consist of players from different teams and different playing levels.

  • 5.2 During registration, participants are required to inform the organizers of:
    • 5.2.1 Gender

    • 5.2.2 Height

    • 5.2.3 Speed level (slow, average, good, excellent)

    • 5.2.4 Skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced)

    • 5.2.5 Stamina level (average, good, excellent)

    • 5.2.6 Current team

  • 5.3 Based on the above information, the organizers will create teams as fairly balanced as possible.

  • 5.4 There will be a maximum of 18 players per team. Therefore, absentees will not disrupt the ability of a team to play in a match.

  • 5.5 Captains shall be required to send their team roster via email to ultimatemalaysia [at] gmail [dot] com by 8am Wednesday, before Match Day.

6.0 Game Format

  • 6.1 Matches will be played according to World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) Rules
  • 6.2 Matches will be played on a regulation size (100m x 37m) field.

  • 6.3 Regulation field is 64m by 37m, with end zones 18m deep.

  • 6.4 Each match will be played to 45 minutes or 13 points.

  • 6.5 Both teams shall be allowed to call one timeout of 2 minutes in the duration of the match.

  • 6.6 A full-length game lasts until one team reaches a score of 13 goals within 45 minutes with a lead of at least two goals, or until a team scores 15 goals.

  • 6.7 Example, if the score is 10-11 in the 45th minute, the current point is played on till a team scores. If the score becomes 11-11, another 2 points shall be played. Whoever scores the next 2 points to reach 13, wins the game.

  • 6.8 Gender ratio shall be mutually agreed by team captains before starting each match.

  • 6.9 There will be a 15 minute break in between matches. Teams are encouraged to play a spirit game or cheer the other team during this time.

  • 6.10 Team captains are advised to field a team with player of different playing levels. It is reminded that the competition stresses on equality of all players, thus all players deserve an equal chance to play.

7.0 Party Format

  • 7.1 Winners will be celebrated in Ultimate fashion at a get-together. (Not included in league fee)

  • 7.2 League and non-league players are welcomed
