Phenomenal INTI Ultimate Tournament!

Mar 18, 2006 - If you weren't at Inti @ Nilai today... you missed one FANTASTIC tournament! It was a great, great, great, did I say GREAT? experience.

16 teams, 192 players and many more supporters in all aspects, it was truly huge team effort from a huge ultimate family. By far, the biggest gathering of ultimate players in Malaysia!

Great plays, great spirit, UiTM won both Men AND Women categories! Tremendous passion and dedication from this UiTM Ultimate family. You've got to watch them in action! I've played with this team a year ago and by golly, they've improved by far, kudos to all team captains, seniors and coach. In the last-minute leading up to tournament day, UiTM's request for a college bus was rejected, but they pulled together to convoy down to Nilai in 8 cars.

Team UiTM mobbed the field after winning the Men's Finals

In the Men's Finals, team UiTM A beat a more experienced but fatigued team NUTS (Nutty Ultimate Team Spirit) by a margin of 2 points. Both teams were neck and neck, fighting tooth and nail for each valuable point. It was intense down to the very last point.

Team NUTS suffered injuries in the final minutes when Kuan and Azran succumbed to leg cramps, whilst Max was rushed to hospital for concussion. However, they clawed back to score the last point, but it wasn't enough to beat the young and energetic team UiTM A.

Team UiTM had the most supportive sideline, cheering and singing, performing the Mexican Wave and celebrating each point. At the final whistle, the whole team mobbed the field for a group hug, and toasted both their captains and seniors. It was team spirit which edged them on to win both the finals of the Mens and Womens.

WOMEN'S FINALS
In the Women's Finals, team UiTM dominated the field and swept team Inti cleanly off their feet. Skill and teamwork amongst the UiTM girls ensured possession of the disc, point after point. With the men's team cheering them on, the girls played with smiles on their faces, kept their plays fair and clean, and even waved to their coach in the end zone.

Majority of team UiTM are newbies to the sport, but you would never have known. They played on with confidence, kept their passes short but sharp, not giving the disc away to the opponents cheaply.

Passion, determination and teamwork paved the way for these girls to win the gold medals and bounty of RM500 cash.

Spirit Award IMHO(In My Humble Opinion) goes out to Catholic High School from PJ. These 15yr-old kids, arranged to get to Nilai on their very own. They paid RM300 to charter a bus down to Nilai, and their leader aka 'boss' footed most of that cost. The rest of them paid RM10 each.

Even with the bare-minimum of 7 players in the CHS's girl team, these bare-footed teenage girls never gave up. Highlight of their day was coming from behind to record a 3-1 win over Taylor's college to put themselves in the semi-finals!

Despite playing with injuries, these gutsy CHS's girl persevered before losing out to the more experienced UiTM in the Semis.

They came, they played, they gave an outstanding account of what teenagers can achieve if you put your heart and soul into it. Watch out for them in the next tournament!

CHS's important win over Taylor's puts them in the Semis

KUDOS! to the organizing commitee of Inti College. Everything went smoothly according to plan, even the weatherman co-operated, we had glorious sunshine all day. Rumour has it, the organizers cleaned up the field thoroughly so we all could make those lay-outs safely!

Job well done, Inti! Looking forward to the next tournament on your turf :)
