Holidays & Exams - June Ultimate Friendly

Great turnout despite exams and holidays, had some guest players too!

Ultimate players from Catholic High School, colleges Inti, Taylors & Help, UiTM and the regular bunch of NUTS plus a few guest players, Kingson from Swiss/HK and Adam from UK.. that's a whole bunch of people!

A slight twist to proceedings this month, not only did we have TWO friendlies on consecutive weekends, we used the HAT format!

HAT format - We ranked players according to their abilities e.g. Handlers, Intermediate and Beginners for guys and girls.

We then separated these players into 4 teams as equally as possible, keeping in mind the guy-girl ratio as well. Format was kept at 5:2 as a standard.

GAME ON! - Game time was 40 minutes. In this extreme heat, teams had to keep changing their lineup after every point to get enough rest and water.

You wouldn't want to faint nor cramp up and miss out on play!

More experienced players led the teams with skills, strategies, and set plays. It was good to see players from different origins mingling and learning from each other. Essentially, this is the core of Ultimate and what I love most about the sport. Don't you agree?

Spirit Of The Game - Enthusiasm and sportmanship took a whole different level. Instead of cheering for players from their own school, now they cheered for a whole new team.

Opposing players helped each other after an unintentional collision (it's a NON-contact sport). Fouls were explained clearly and called fairly with good intentions.

Get together! - After the Jun 3rd friendly, Justin and I went to Sg Pisang waterfall with the UiTM team. It was a greatly rewarding adventure! Others broke for Banana Leaf rice at a nearby Indian curry house.

Furthermore, after the Jun 10th friendly, Matt and Karola graciously hosted a Poolside BBQ party at their condo. Pumped up the NO, vroom vroom and had more fun, bbq-in, eating and playing Ultimate in the pool!

What's next ?

  • July - preparations for July 29th tourney @ UM. Be there or be square!
  • Aug - Invitational friendlies amongst teams preparing for Singapore Open
  • Sept - Singapore Ultimate Open, tentatively Sept 9-10th
  • Oct - Another round of friendlies? Who's game?
